WEEKEND FISHING TRIP
FANCY TRYING YOUR LUCK AT A BIT OF RIVER FISHING?
INTERESTED MEMBERS SHOULD RING OR EMAIL THE SECRETARY.
Following lots of interest shown by 8 of our members at the recent GENERAL MEETING the club is going to organise a trip to give all members who have never fished a river the opportunity. The venue is yet to be confirmed but is likley to be in and around Shrewsbury.
The intention is to book a B&B for a Friday & Saturday night then travel down on the Friday evening, then to fish Saturday & Sunday until the lunchtime before heading back home.
Being a social/fishing trip I suspect a few drinks with some good grub will be consumed from one or more of the local hostelries on the Saturday evening.
Members will be on hand to help and give advice to those lacking or with little knowledge of how to setup their tackle to fish rivers such as using Stick or Waggler floats including Feeders.

Members trip to the River Severn 24th- 26th November 2017
Following discussions at the last two General Meeting it was decided to arrange a river fishing trip to the River Severn around the Shrewsbury area. The original idea was to book accommodation in Shrewsbury and arrange fishing through Shropshire Angling Association. Unfortunately the former proved to be very difficult with accommodation at weekends close to Shrewsbury town centre being very hard to secure.
However a chance catch up with a former club member and close friend Mike Skeen ( Skeeney ) saved the day. Skeeney, whom I invited along is a member of Prince Albert Angling Association and made enquiries about a length of the Severn that surrounds one of their Carp Waters “The Isle “ just north west of Shrewsbury. This is available with accommodation at the “ Isle Estate Country House “ to members at good rates Phone calls were made to ensure all members were onboard with the arrangements and times were set to to meet up on the Friday.
Unfortunately the weather for the previous few days was not kind to us. I know from past experience that the heavy rain in mid Wales would likely prove to have a detrimental effect on the fishing. That coupled with a sharp turn down in temperatures and at times bitter winds spelled disaster for our fishing chances, Upon arrival the river was nearly three metres above normal, coloured and pushing through at a rate of knots. Despite the best efforts of all who attended only Neil Bowden managed to hook a small fish which skipped off the hook three foot from the bank !!!
Despite the disappointing fishing the weekend proved to be a success with the accommodation being nothing short of fantastic. The Country house itself dates back to the early seventeen century and is beautifully appointed with antique furnishings, yet is very cosy with excellent central heating and a welcoming log fire. The owners Edward and Ros were incredibly attentive and insisted that we treat there home as our own. They couldn’t do enough the deal we had, I think you will agree was exceptional. We had Bed and Breakfast, packed lunches and three course evening meals for two days for the princely sum of £ 131.00per person all in. The breakfast was freshly cooked and unlimited. The packed lunches where huge and hard to consume after the near Churchillian breakfasts. The evening meals were produced using all home grown ingredients and on the Saturday night a home reared Duck!
The weekend trip from the off was to be a mixture of part fishing and part social gathering. As all anglers know, with fishing, you make the arrangements and hope the conditions will prove to be conducive to good catches on the days that you fish but it can never be guaranteed.
The protagonists for this trip were as follows -: Neil Bowden,Mike Walker, Mike Lewandowski, Skeeney, myself Chairman Bruce and another former long standing member Pete Ransome.
On the back of this trip it is hoped to run further trips next season if you wish to be involved keep an eye on the web site and look out for dates for future general meeting Sent from my iPad.
