GREEN LANE WORK PARTY 18TH AUGUST.
The work party attendance was better than expected but yet again most of those who turned out came from our older membership many whom I might add were suffering with various health issues. As a result, lots of the planned work had to be postponed with it consisting of mostly heavy manual work better suited to younger members, certainly not those in attendance.
All of the paths are now reasonably clear with the grass/weeds strimmed. The 6x bales of Barley Straw I purchased with the help of my grandson on the Saturday before the work party were stuffed into some hessian sacks and wrapped in garden netting before inserting them into both pools. The places chosen to insert them were given careful consideration mainly to avoid fishable pegs. These over time should we hope have a reducing effect on the weed and stop it from coming back. We will also be continuing with the applications of Dyofix starting early next year and it is our intention to double up on that applied previously to give it a better chance of restricting the weed growth.
Most of what was done on the work party has made a big difference to the access and made some pegs more fishable. Unfortunately though once again the cutting of tree branches and bank side bushes down seem to be something some anglers just cannot avoid doing. This again happened yesterday with the guilty parties doing it whilst not being visible from where I was working. I only realised what was happening after moving to another area but it was too late to stop and avoid the damage already done. I was told they were just clearing and making a peg fishable. If every member did the same on each and every peg they intended to fish the place would very quickly look a complete mess instead of a lovely looking fishery.
MEMBERS TO NOTE:
THE CUTTING DOWN OF BANKSIDE FOILAGE WHETHER BUSHES, SHRUBS, TREE BRANCHES OR ANYTHING ELSE IS STRICKLY FORBIDDEN WITHOUT THE ON-SITE PERMISSION OF A CLUB OFFICIAL.
